Remembrance Myst | Marigold Hydrosol

$18.00

Let the sweet smell of Marigolds hold your heart and soothe your spirit.

This gorgeous myst, extracted from a steam distillation of Tagetes lemmonii (Mexican Marigolds) I grew, is best used to lift the spirits and cleanse the energy of physical spaces, as well as people. It is beautiful ceremonially when deep grief is present. Or just every day when you feel like you are trudging through the muck. In times of loss and heaviness, this hydrosol is incredible to have around.

Marigolds have long held a place in the realm of grief and revering our ancestors.

In Victorian times, marigolds symbolized grief and pain. Marigolds were also sacred to the Maya, and in both Aztec and Mayan cultures, the plant was used to honor gods and spirits. In modern Mexico, the marigold serves as an important symbol for Dias de Los Muertos, and the cempasúchil - the Aztec name of the marigold flower native to Mexico - is an integral part of the altar created for this day, along with photos of the dead, candles, and offerings of bottles of liquor and food.

The fragrance of the bright orange and yellow flowers is said to lead souls from their burial place to their family homes. The cheerful hues also add to the celebratory nature of the holiday, which, although it's wrapped up in death, is not somber but festive.

In India, marigolds are a symbol of remembrance and sacrifice. They also have spiritual significance and are used to protect against negative energies. Like the Aztec and Mayans, Indians also believe their strong fragrance could be used to ward off evil spirits.

This myst can also be used as a skin fragrance, a facial toner, an aftershave, hair refresher, deodorant, or room fragrance/refresher. You can also use them in a diffuser (yes, the same kind you use for Essential Oils, or EOs). To do this, just pour hydrosol into the container and dilute 1/3-1/2 with water. Or just go for it and infuse as is. It is heavenly!

Unlike Essential Oils, Mysts can be used directly on the skin.

Mysts can also be used to energetically cleanse spaces, rooms, or people. You can ground your energy and your spirit by spraying before or after meditation, bringing you back to the present moment. They can be used in much the same way that sacred smokes (White Sage, Palo Santo, Rosemary, Mugwort, Juniper, Cedar, etc.) are used  and are really handy when you cannot produce smoke or light anything on fire.

All of the hydrosols, or mysts as I like to call them, in my collection are made from steam and water distilling pounds of fresh plant material with spring water in an Artisanal Portuguese Copper Alembic Still.

This listing is for a 2 oz spray bottle of Remembrance Myst
